Our Latest Addition: The Liebherr LH50 Material Handler
We’re proud to announce the latest addition to our fleet — the Liebherr LH50.
This powerhouse represents a major investment in performance, precision, and efficiency for our metal recycling operations.
Power and Performance
The LH50 is built to handle the toughest material-loading demands in the scrap industry.
Engine Power: 300 hp (223 kW) Liebherr diesel engine meeting the latest Stage V emission standards.
Operating Weight: around 50 tonnes, giving it the stability needed for heavy-duty scrap handling.
Reach: up to 18 metres, making it ideal for loading bulkers, shears, and barges with ease.
Hydraulic System: high-pressure, load-sensing hydraulics for smooth, controlled movement and fast cycle times.
Efficiency and Sustainability
Efficiency is everything in modern recycling.
The LH50 is fitted with Liebherr’s energy recovery system (ERC) — a smart hydraulic accumulator that stores and reuses braking energy, reducing fuel consumption by up to 25 %.
It also features auto-idle and eco-mode functions, keeping fuel use and emissions to a minimum during lighter tasks.
Operator Comfort and Safety
Inside the cab, operators benefit from a climate-controlled environment, adjustable joystick controls, 360° camera visibility, and hydraulic cab elevation, giving a clear view into high-sided trailers and skips.
Safety is enhanced by auto-braking slew, boom limiters, and Liebherr’s renowned build quality.
Why It Matters
For R. Davies Metals & Sons, this investment isn’t just about having bigger machines — it’s about processing material faster, safer, and more efficiently.
The LH50 allows us to increase loading throughput, reduce idle times, and keep up with the growing demand from our UK and export customers.
